What Schools Are Saying About Music Student Retention!

I started teaching music in 2009, and I’ve met many music teachers along the way, but few have been as helpful and insightful as Jason Summers. For the past year, we have spoken with Jason once a month regarding a huge variety of topics in his Drum Teaching Success program. These have included classroom management, teaching different age groups, dealing with parents, promotional material, networking, recitals, reward systems, and so much more. Each month we get a packet well in advance that Jason puts together, then we have a conference call with him to discuss that month’s topic. I have used some of the topics we covered to help our other teachers and of course, myself. Teachers have found the modules about teaching very young children and preparing for recitals especially helpful. Once word got around the school that we were learning about different topics from Jason, teachers began coming to me directly for advice on how to deal with difficult students, how to prepare for recitals, or even how to get more students in their studio. Jason even had advice for us about online teaching during the COVID-19 closures. Jason himself is very kind and outgoing, and it’s very easy to see how he maintains such a vast studio of students. Jason’s program would be a great tool for any music school, especially for those who are able to take what he teaches and spread that to other teachers as well. Jason has techniques that can apply to any instrument in addition to drums. Jason’s longevity as a teacher allows his expertise to really shine through. The Drum Teaching Success program would make an excellent tool for any directors or teachers looking to take their craft to the next level.

He was clear and quick, and targeted 3 subjects on the call (plus Q&A) to make it easy for teachers to see how they can make a difference in their lessons immediately. Teachers sent in their feedback and LOVED hearing from Jason, who is in the "trenches" and has spot-on concrete advice and examples on how to make lessons fun, the importance of communication with parents at each lessons, and what really happens when teachers ask for substitutes (one teacher actually emailed me to say they now realize how their absences may have caused students to exit their schedule and how they will do much better going forward - wow!). Hearing this message from someone outside of our School is priceless. We can't wait for our next training with Jason - he has a huge list of topics to choose from.

I just can't thank Jason Summers and Drum Teaching Success enough. This program is making my lessons and my job not only more easy on myself, but also way more fun and enjoyable. I'm not running out of ideas anymore. In fact, I feel like I have a whole arsenal of things that I could do with my students. And that makes me walk into the lessons way more prepared, confident with what I'm going to do, and knowing how to approach every single situation that it might present. And that is just priceless to me. It brings me joy, peace and happiness. My students are looking forward to our lesson every week and asking me what's the new Fun thing we'll do today!!! Not to mention my retention rate is going way higher. Thank You Jason Summers. This program has not only changed my life but also my family as well!

Jason's Drum Teaching Success course is a practical, creative and fun approach to drum instruction. The common thread throughout the course can be summed up by the question: How can we teachers motivate our students to continue drum lessons for a long time? Drum Teaching Success provides many answers to that question. Prior to completing the course, teaching 5 to 10-year-old students was challenging for me, and I sought advice from other instructors. But Jason, in particular, has devised some creative and fun exercises that improved my ability to entertain the younger students.
If you are a drum teacher who wants more students, you will benefit from Drum Teaching Success.

I have been in touch with Jason Summers once each month during the Teacher Success Program and it’s been such a pleasure getting to know him! He’s friendly, consistently upbeat and professional. I would recommend this program to any teachers that are working on growing their schedule. With Jason’s years of experience, he knows how to help problem solve and retain almost any client with a great attitude. I have been working at the front desk at Westchase Music School for 7 years and I would love if all the staff at WMS would follow what Jason advises to grow a successful music studio.

DTS instruction has been extremely effective and inspirational to say the least. I now have a retention rate 80-85% which is by far the best at our school.

One of DTS defining characteristics is the ability to teach the fundamentals of instruction concisely to any age. DTS covers every learning style whether it be auditory or kinesthetic. The one on one training offered through DTS has helped me become a better instructor.
